Besides Rendang, Dendeng Batokok ( Beaten Jerky) is a very popular traditional Minangkabau food. Dendeng Batokok is made from thinly sliced beef and boiled with selected spices then beaten until the meat fibers soften and then fried. This jerky combined with chilli fried red / green chilies that is coarsely ground with special spices creates a sensation of a savory, spicy and sour taste combination on the tongue.
